Course Blog #1

Hi everyone! My name is Tai-Tai Scherer, I am a freshman at Whittier College and I plan to major in Business Management. I am interested in Event Managing when I am older. I love to plan and organize parties, it is what I am most interested in. A fun fact about me is I am a diver for Whittier.

Only two days into EDCU283, I really enjoy the course. I am glad I took it because as a Business Major I feel like it is important to learn about social media and electronics. The world is evolving so much into an electronically based system it is always smart to be up to date on the changes. Being interested in Event Management I will have to know a lot about social media to stay connected to clients and get my business branded because a lot of business in that industry is online. I enjoy being up to date and being tech savvy, so this class will also enhance that ability. I am already learning so much about google docs, blogging, twitter, and the impact social media and electronics are having on students and the school systems.

Today in class we watched a video about how electronics are affecting young children and how schools are incorporating electronics more and more. I feel like there are a lot of positives about that but also negatives. For example positives; I think kids will be a lot more interested in school if it is more tech and more like playing video games. It will keep them a lot more interested and more keen on learning. It is a lot faster, and they even said children in this generation already have a good sense of how to use a computer without any guidance so it is already programmed in their brains. A negative is; I think shy kids or kids who don’t really want to learn can hide behind a computer screen for the rest of their lives and they will never learn social interaction and that key concept of life and learning. Electronics can be so one dimensional and that can suck you in and then you won’t even be able to look up from the screen. So I think technology is fantastic but everything needs a limit and people need to know their limit with tech and their childrens.
